Norton AntiVirus 2011 Stopped Working After “Side-By-Side” Configuration?

Okay, a couple weeks back, my desktop computer had an internet problem. Probably a few weeks passes, guessing about a month. Within those months, I had used my mom’s laptop instead. So when the internet problem finally stopped (so far it has been mediocre) I had to check up on my Norton, seeing it as the SideBar app of it didn’t show anything.
When I tried to open it, it wouldn’t open and give me the error message of “CANNOT OPEN DUE TO Side-By-Side Configuration” or something like that. All over all, I can’t open it. I don’t feel like downloading McAfee, I already bought Norton; should be good for more than 300 days.
Is there anyway to fix this without having to purchase anything? And if not, what is the solution?

The best thing you can do is dump norton it has a very low rating in test results…as has AVG and mcaffee…the best tested free Anti-Virus are Avast and Avira…and are superior programs…free..
