Cutting straight boards with a circular saw?

I am trying to make make a chessboard, but do not have a table saw or jointer to make everything square before gluing it. How accurate would it be to clamp a framing square to a piece of wood and rip it with a circular saw using the square as a guide. Then use the rip guide that comes with the saw against the edge I just cut to get my pieces completely square. Then cut the edges on a chop saw. Will this result in a cut square enough for a good glue joint?

Just use a straight edge to place the saw against.
It will work fine. I do it that way all the time.
