A Word to the Wise: Lessons from Proverbs for Young Adults

$14.09

It happens each day; a high school girl considers dating a non-Christian; young couples cross dangerous physical and emotional boundaries; students fail classes they could pass with ease given the effort; teenagers are locked in an eternal battle with their parents. Challenging teens with lessons learned in Proverbs, A Word to the Wise encourages the reader to choose wisdom, not folly; life, not death; God, not the world. Proving to be one of the most relevant books of the Bible for young adults, Proverbs addresses the major concerns of every teenagers lifefrom sex to friendship, attitude to lazinessand does so with wit and vivacity. Let the wise listen and add to their learning, implores the writer of Proverbs, desperate for his audience to pursue wisdom and not foolishness, holiness and not immorality. With that same passion, A Word to the Wise challenges Christian youth across the globe to commit to a life of Christ-honoring wisdom. Packed with daily application and helpful hints for navigating the murky waters of the teenage years, A Word to the Wise offers clear, biblical exposition of a book steeped in relevance for today. Brandon Cooper draws from experience as youth pastor and chaplain at a Christian missionary school sharing his insight into the trials and temptations of the modern teen. As a missionary serving with the youth of Colombia, he encounters young adults struggling to make good choices when it comes to dating, school and family. Desperate to see these young people pursuing Gods glory with passion, Cooper writes directly to them with a palpable pastoral concern. Cooper chooses Proverbs, with its pithy statements and biblical wisdom, to train teens to choose Gods best. . With study questions at the end of each chapter, students contemplate some of the most important issues they face as a young adult. The clear, topical approach helps them to apply the wisdom of Proverbs to their own lives. The thought-provoking discussion questions make the book ideal for interaction in small groups, Bible classes, youth groups and during family devotion time. Cooper believes that by impacting teens now, before they’ve made a choice one way or the other, they will be better prepared for the choices they face in high school and college. Good choices now helps them establish healthy relationships with friends and members of the opposite sex. He stresses that life is a swift succession of choices that will lead us even closer to or farther away from our Father in heaven. Let the wise listenand grow in godliness

Any ideas for a bible study?

I want to start having a bible study at my house, but i’m not exactly sure how i want to do it.
I was thinking sometime during the week, since people are always doing stuff on the weekends.
Like thursdays from 6:00-7:00 (does that sound like a good amount of time?)

I just don’t know how i’m going to get people to come.
I know I have a few friends who will, but i’m interseted in getting more people into reading their Bibles, because its so good for you and your relationship with God.
And i don’t know if i should get a bible study from LifeWay and copy pages off for everyone or what.

Any ideas about anything?
If you’ve done a bible study and you really liked it that would help to.
Or any you’ve seen you think look interesting.
(by the way, i’m 16 so thats around the age of people who’d be coming, so if you know of any youth or young adult bible study books, those would be best :)

I’m up for ideas on anything :)
Thank you so much!
God bless!

You might try running the idea by your youth pastor or minister or adviser.

They will be able to give you some pointers on organization and or ‘jumping off points’. It can be a little intimidating to initiate something like that so speaking with someone who has experience might be helpful.

Start simple, discussion group. Pick a topic, take an informal pole at the first group gathering.

Why not invite classmates (who you feel would consider going, don’t just randomly approach people because you may offend or send the wrong message).

Lastly, invite ‘guest speakers’. Check your local universities for visiting professors who might be willing to lecture at one of your group gatherings. Mix it up a little bit. Having a club for Bible study can be a great opportunity for not only theological discussion and inquiry but would benefit from a historical and literary approach as well, giving your group a well rounded motif and thus, making it more interesting to friends and or peer you might invite.

Diversify: invite peers and or friends who you know to have different beliefs and faiths than your group’s focus. Make it a real ‘faith’ group /gathering, not just a Bible study, the club will only benefit!
